OVR’s Take on World-Scale Metaverse

The world mapped and sold as NFTs to create an AR “metaverse” layer over the physical world. You’ve heard this song before. But, not like this. “Anybody can build a digital layer over the world… the point is, what is the service that you provide?” OVR COO and co-founder, Diego Di Tommaso, told ARPost. “Is it a stand-alone thing, or something that adds value?” Squares Are for Squares. Hexagons Are the Future. Mapping the world and selling the platts is becoming a relatively common practice, as is the “world-scale metaverse” trope in general. Before we get around to what OVR does with that map, let’s talk about how they divvy it up. For one thing, they’ve divided the world into hexagons instead of squares. This may seem like a small difference, but the team is passionate that hexagons make for a more accurate and just portioning of the globe. There’s

8th Wall Partners With Ready Player Me to Reality-Bending Effect

XR developer platform 8th Wall has just announced a partnership with cross-platform avatar builder Ready Player Me. To be fair, the list of companies compatible with Ready Player Me is growing all the time. However, there are a few things about the two companies that make this partnership particularly special. I Want to Talk About Ready Player Me To really understand the importance of this announcement, we have to make sure that we’re on the same page regarding Ready Player Me. The outfit allows users to make a 3D avatar starting from a photo. From there, they can change the avatar as well as its outfits. Ready Player Me avatars If this sounds familiar, it could be because you’ve probably done it quite a few times already – making an avatar is a common first step when stepping into a new VR platform. Remember that I root for you ❤ Top news of the week (Image by Valve)Steam VR headsets reach an all-time high Despite the rumors about PCVR being dead, the number of monthly connected headsets on SteamVR reached an all-time high. According to the estimates by Road To VR, the number could be as big as 3.4 million.  I think this is a great stat because it shows that PCVR is not dead, but more like in a complicated transitional situation. There are many sides to consider of the whole story.  First of all, the market is growing with a good rate of 30% year-over-year, and this

My predictions for augmented reality in 2022

After having written my predictions for virtual reality for this year, it’s time for me to dig into what is happening in the next months in augmented reality. As I always say about my predictions, I’m not sure they will turn out to be true (and honestly, many times this hasn’t happened), but for sure they identify some trends to keep an eye on. So this post can be a good read to evaluate what is currently happening in the industry, and think about what could happen next. If you want to read better predictions about AR, I advise you to follow Tom Emrich, since he usually writes great posts on the topic! That said, let’s dig into my super predictions.

Happy Chinese/Lunar new year! On this occasion, I wish every one of you a lot of happiness, joy, peace, good health, money. I hope this new lunar year is going to bring you the best possible outcomes!  Tonight starts the year of the Tiger… which is going to be my year! According to the tradition, it should be a year that will be important for me, either in a good or a bad way, so it should be pretty exciting. I have already a red bracelet and I just bought some red socks that are considered a way to help me in having an amazing new year. I just hope that the quality of the new year won’t be the same as the socks: I have bought some cheap ones on AliExpress, and the embroidery of the tigers seems made by some kid under the effects of Rohypnol. I hope the

The situational comedy will air on traditional networks and streaming services alongside a unique AR version. We’ve seen AR technology used in a variety of unique ways over the past several years, but nothing quite like Gay Aliens in Metaverse. The XR Week (2022.01.24): Google AR headset is “Project Iris”, Microsoft acquires Activision Blizzard, and more

The international situation scares me a bit, but I’m trying to focus on the good things that happened to me this week. The Oxymore musical VR experience we of VRrOOm have organized with Jean-Michel Jarre went great; someone posted a tweet where he shows he finished our game HitMotion: Reloaded; and one of my readers made an amazing meme about my tutorials. I can say it was a great week for me, professionally speaking… and I hope that the next one will even be better. What about yours? Let me know how things are going for you! Top news of the week (Image by Google)Project Iris is the codename of Google’s AR glasses According to a report on The Verge, Google is working on AR glasses.
