CES 2023: Wireless XTAL 3 Aims For Q3 2023 Release

Super wide field of view headset XTAL 3 is getting a wireless option. We last got a look at XTAL 3’s “distortion-free” wide field of view VR system from Vrgineers at CES last year. This year, the company is announcing some updates including a wireless option developed working with the company’s partner IMRNext. While the headset offers native 4K resolution per eye, according to Vrgineers, the wireless mode compresses the resolution to 2560×1440 at 70 Hz per eye and transmits it wirelessly via a belt-worn module to IMRNext’s Wi-Fi 6E access point connected to a capable computer. The aim is for the wireless option to support “more dynamic use case scenarios and enhance the quality of single-user and multi-user simulation and training exercises,” according to Phil Purdy, IMRNext director of Engineering and Delivery, in a prepared statement. Vrgineers says its latest XTAL headset weighs 920 grams.

The time to harvest for us VR people is now

A few weeks ago, I was discussing with a colleague of mine that I hadn’t seen for months, and while we were updating ourselves about each other’s lives, we started talking about our VR careers. We both are in a better situation than a few years ago, so at a certain point, he told me a sentence that made me think: “I’m finally now harvesting the fruits of the plants I sowed in the past years”. This sentence remained in my head after the call, and from time to time I kept thinking about it. I have to say that also from my personal experience, it is true: now it’s the time to harvest for us VR people. “Let’s take it back all that is ours”, it’s from a TV series spoken in Naples dialectThe Gartner Hype cycle of VR I work in the XR field since 2014, and I’ve

But with the device only just announced, Sony is playing its cards close to its chest when it comes to the software library. So far we have only a handful of fully announced PSVR 2 games, but there are plenty of other titles that are rumored or hinted at to talk about too. This list includes rumored PSVR 2 games and also titles that appear on both

Lynx Says $4 Million Investment ‘Secures Our Supply Chain’ Ahead Of R-1 Deliveries

Lynx says it raised $4 million in a funding round ahead of delivery of its R-1 mixed reality headset.Lynx creator Stan Larroque posted  on Twitter about the funding, writing that “after our successful Kickstarter we’re now able to secure our supply chain completely and fulfill the insane demand we’re facing.” The highly anticipated system is based on the same XR2 chipset powering Quest 2 while providing full color passthrough for mixed reality/AR with an open air view of your surroundings. The sides can also be closed off for a VR viewing experience as well. Lynx recently showed off the hardware at GDC in San Francisco and confirmed to UploadVR Correspondents that backers could “expect the first headsets to come between June and July,” instead of the original April delivery target. Artists, Brands, And Fans In The Metaverse

The question of how artists, brands, and fans will function in the metaverse is one that hasn’t been answered yet. What’s the best way for each of these parties to function in the metaverse and reach their audiences?“This new medium is one that presents a really exciting opportunity for many different parts of culture whether it’s artists, brands, or fans—  they all have a role to play,” says Inder Phull, co-founder and CEO of PIXELYNX— a new gaming venture co-founded by Joel Zimmerman (deadmau5) and Richie Hawtin (Plastikman). During his previous role at Graphite Music as Head of Music and Gaming, Phull was well situated to watch these industries converge. There’s enormous opportunity for innovation at this intersection, but as ever with innovation, it’s a complex puzzle to develop the language, methodologies, and work ethics that evolve with it. Image Credit: PIXELYNXA THRIVING ECOSYSTM FOR NEW BUSINESS VENTURES As we speak, Phull identifies three

Mark Zuckerberg: Facebook Will Be ‘A Metaverse Company’ In 5 Years

Platformer’s Casey Newton interviewed Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on his plans to make Facebook “a metaverse company”.If you’re not familiar with the term, “metaverse” simply means a massively social digital alternate universe. The term was coined by Neal Stephenson in his 1992 novel Snow Crash, which also popularized “avatar”. Some consider individual platforms like VRChat metaverses, whereas others think the term should only be used singular to describe an open protocol-based system like the internet.
